Are you at Risk for a MRSA Infection?
MRSA, or methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus, is a bacterium that can cause infections discovered in 1961, but since that time has adapted to become resistant to many antibiotics including methicillin, amoxicillin, penicillin and oxacillin. While individuals can carry MRSA without being infected (ex. in the nasal lining), it can become a serious problem once it manages to get inside the body through a cut or tear in the skin.
